Marking Time on Paper: Australian Aboriginal Printmakers

Please join us for Marking Time, Booker-Lowe's group exhibition of recent etchings, linocuts and screen prints by indigenous artists from Australia!

Marking Time is just one of many exhibitions and events comprising PrintHouston2011, the inaugural citywide "celebration of original prints, the artists who create them, and the people who collect them," sponsored by PrintMatters.

Marking Time features works by the acclaimed printmakers of Australia's Torres Strait Islands, Dennis Nona, Alick Tipoti, and Billy Missi. It also includes prints by some of the best-known Aboriginal painters of the Kimberleys, as well as artists from Arnhem Land and the Tiwi Islands, in Australia’s Top End.

Nana Booker, Honorary Consul of Australia and co-owner of Booker-Lowe, will lead an informal gallery talk at 4:30 pm, Saturday, 11 June, about Australia's indigenous print-makers, their subjects drawn from ancestral traditions and daily lives, and their artistic styles and special printmaking techniques.

Booker-Lowe showcases a wide variety of contemporary fine art by Australia's indigenous artists, and offers the largest collection of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island artworks for sale in the Americas.
